What is handtracking?
Handtracking means the VR headset tech recognises the user’s hands and uses their gestures to affect the action, rather than a controller. Handtracking capabilities exist on existing VR devices such as the Quest 2, but the next generation of VR headsets will take this to the next level.
This particularly applies to the upcoming Apple Vision Pro, which does not have controllers at all, but we expect the upcoming Quest 3 to make great advances in this field too. This post will be updated as we have more information and hands-on experience with these headsets.
How can handtracking work with passthrough?

How can this be improved in future updates?
As Vrsumo2017 points out, it would be ideal to upgrade the hands to more accurately reflect the users’, such as skin colour, but also to look as realistic as possible so they match the video content. For passthrough content, it would be best if the users actual hands were visible - this might be beyond the capabilities of some VR devices, but the Apple Vision Pro headset has the most potential on this front.
Another addition would be the ability to use gestures such as pinch and pull left/right for forward/rewind, or pinch and pull up/down to adjust the tilt of the view.
It appears that handtracking will replace controllers in VR in the future. The SLR and DeoVR apps are perfectly placed to get ahead of this, and take advantage of the incredible immersive potential that handtracking can deliver in VR porn - especially when teamed with SLR’s state-of-the-art passthrough feature.
