We got the chance to speak with Tony, the showrunner at KinkyKingdom, one of our partner studios here at SLR. Tony is a relative newcomer to the VR Porn production game but a long-time professional behind-the-scenes in the adult industry. This positioning led him to the decision to open a studio of his own, and he was generous enough to share some of the insights he's learned along the way.
What is the concept behind KinkyKingdom?
TONY: The main idea is “semi amateur.” I like to cast models that are new in the industry, and also models who are already in the industry, but might not have many VR scenes. This turns out to be harder than I thought if you are brand new as a producer and have no street-cred.
Why is that?
TONY: Because agents don't know you and finding new girls is a lot of work. So when I look at the small library I currently have, there's still models in there with plenty of scenes. The 'semi' in semi amateur is that I still want to do everything by and on the books.
What made you want to start a VR porn studio?
TONY: Money. But this is not easy money. I do not do anything set-related myself. I'm never even present on set. So my costs easily are double to triple what most other studios have. I've never even met a single model, even though aside from the studio, I am already working in the industry.
If you could book any model for one of your scenes, who would it be?
TONY: There's so many! But I don't know their names, as they aren't yet in the industry.
Which scene would you recommend a new viewer watch first to get an idea of what KinkyKingdom is all about?
TONY: I'd say Lya Cutie's "My first VR.” Even though it wasn't the first released VR scene, it was the first of her VR shoots. She also only joined the industry three weeks prior to that shoot. By the way, fun fact: Due to circumstances, the hotel room that was originally booked for Lya Cutie's first shoot had to be abandoned last-minute. The shoot had actually already started in the originally booked hotel– it was a lot more classy (and expensive) than the one seen in the scene. But I was so happy with the result, as I found the original hotel room the crew booked was way too fancy! The setting for Lya Cutie's "My first VR" perfectly captures what I want: a simple room, but well lit. Her timidness shines through in the scene. LOVE IT!

The original room looks nice, too. They both do.
TONY: But the second hotel room where we actually shot has this more amateur feel that I want.
More relatable to the viewer.
TONY: Yeah! In my opinion, amateur-ISH in VR is really nice as long as the production is done professionally (camera not moving or shaky, colors look natural, etc.). High production-value scenes usually have deeper coloration, like in blockbuster movies.
I see. We still want that sort of sex-tape reality vibe, but it only works when it's polished to a certain level.
TONY: One hundred percent.
Is there anything else you’d like to share with fans?
TONY: They might like to know that all my scenes are released with human-made scripts on day one.
